Florida Has Many Criminal Traffic Offenses

Florida law has criminalized many acts involving driving a car beyond DUIs. Driving with disregard for the safety of people or property is Reckless Driving, and, yes, it is open to wide interpretation by the police. Street Racing has been made criminal since 2002 and the racing law is very vague. It is so vague that simply exceeding the speed limit can land you in jail for racing by an over-ambitious officer. If you leave the scene of an accident, even a minor fender-bender, after waiting for hours for the police to show up is a crime. And even though there are about as many ways to get your drivers license suspended as there are police on the streets, the offense of driving with a suspended license is often not a provable crime (and too many can label you as a habitual traffic offender).
