Motorcycles and Florida Laws - (407) 841-5555

Florida has changed this law.  No longer must a motorcycle license be horizontal.  The tag must be solidly affixed to the motorcycle.  The $1,000 fine is gone too.

Our Legislature has corrected the draconian statute, for now...

§316.2085(3) - The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed to the vehicle and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up. No device for or method of concealing or obscuring the legibility of the license tag of a motorcycle shall be installed or used.

PENALTIES:  Fined as a moving violation under chapter 318.

COMMENT: Much better than old statute.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO if you receive this ticket.  Decide whether you want to keep getting these type of tickets. If not, fix the license plate attachment to comply with the statute.  Provide proof either by receipts or photographs.  Call us if you do not want the hassle of going to court.  These are considered "moving violations" and will carry points against your drivers license. The Criminal Offenses specific to Motorcycles

NO MORE WHEELIES: As of October 1, 2008, it is Florida law that popping a wheelie on a motorcycle is per se Reckless Driving.  Get caught on one wheel and you will be arrested and spend at least the next five hours getting out of jail.  Moreover, your bike will be towed (and that is as ugly as it sounds).
