Shoplifting is just
another term for theft. However, it usually relates to a person
that is accused of attempting to take an item out of a store such
as a clothing store or a supermarket / grocery store. This is
different from other forms of theft usually because it involves smaller,
less expensive
items of property and may involve some unique and complex defenses.
Stealing in this way often is a
spontaneous act, not planned, and prompted by underlying causes.
It is important that these "things" - we might say "reasons" or
"explanations" - are brought out in your case so that the entire picture
is painted for the court.
